What is Reflexology

Reflexology is a science, based on the principle that all the organs and Structures of the body have reflex points on the hands and soles of the feet. Stimulating the correct reflex points with the correct pressure appropriate to the condition and the client activates a direct invisible link or life force connection with the structures or organs. The Reflexologists aims to promote relaxation balance and harmony to the client's body, and extended body. The extended body is called the auric field or electromagnetic field. This general relaxation of the cellular structure allows the body to release "toxins". Stress can be caused by the overloading of these unwanted and unnecessary elements. They may have their origin in a physical emotional or spiritual nature and manifested as "illness" of some kind. Reflexology helps to release this tension, or de-stress the client.

History

A pictograph dating from 2330 B.C. found in the physicians tomb in Ankmahor in the valley of the kings in Egypt is evidence of the ancient practice of this therapy. There are records of it being practiced in Chinese, Japanese and Indian cultures. The Russians, aware that stimulation of the 2700 nerve endings in the feet, as well as the reflex points was a contributory factor in promoting holistic health.

In 1938 Eunice Ingham, a Reflex Zone therapist developed and refined zonal theory in to modern day understanding of Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrored tension in the corresponding part of the body.

Today many countries in Europe have come together to share experiences, research the effectiveness of the therapy, and promote friendship and growth. It is intended that Ireland will host the European Conference in Reflexology in 2006.

Reflexology is enjoying a lot of popularity.
Firstly because the high levels of stress we're exposed to, we can all be living in a continuing state of stress.
Secondly, in a more relaxed state, the therapy tends to create an awareness of adjustments the client needs to make in lifestyle.
Thirdly, with a number of treatments, cellular spiritual and emotional relaxation are sustained. The client tends to feel stronger and more confident.
